New LED Technology Enhances Iconic Entrance at Pine Knob
Few entertainment venues carry the history and recognition of Pine Knob Music Theatre. For more than 50 years, Pine Knob Music Theatre has been one of Michigan’s most recognizable live entertainment destinations, welcoming generations of concertgoers to one of the country’s premier outdoor amphitheaters.
As one of Michigan’s most beloved outdoor concert venues, Pine Knob welcomes hundreds of thousands of guests each season, hosting world-class artists and unforgettable live performances. With another busy summer concert season, they knew it was time to modernize its entrance with a dynamic digital marquee that matched the world-class experience inside the gates.
The Challenge
For years, Pine Knob relied on a traditional static entrance sign. While iconic, it lacked the flexibility needed to promote a constantly changing concert schedule and deliver timely information to guests. Like many premier entertainment venues across the country, Pine Knob recognized the opportunity to replace its aging roadside sign with a modern digital display capable of delivering vibrant, up-to-date messaging.
The project had been in development for nearly two years before moving into production. Once approved, the installation timeline became aggressive, with only a few months to manufacture, deliver, and install the display before the start of the summer concert season.
The Solution
When it came time to replace the venue’s aging roadside sign with a modern digital display, Electro-Matic Visual would work alongside long-time partner, Gardner Signs, to deliver the LED technology that would become the centerpiece of the new entrance monument. Throughout the project, both teams remained focused on a shared goal—delivering a seamless installation before opening night.
Integrated into Gardner Sign’s custom monument structure, Electro-Matic Visual supplied a custom Series V, outdoor LED display designed for exceptional performance in demanding outdoor environments.
