IO-Link is a point to point connection system used to reduce intensive wiring for multiple inputs and outputs in a field connected IO system. Sensor manufacturers have taken advantage of reduced wiring costs and enhanced diagnostics for input and output devices outside the enclosure for several years. Siemens has applied the principles of IO-Link to many control devices which are mounted inside the main enclosure. These devices include motor starters, analog monitoring relays, and pilot devices.
